Informasjonen her er fra sjøforklaringer holdt under og rett etter krigen og kan derfor avvike noe fra den øvrige kvalitetssikrede informasjonen i Krigsseilerregisteret.

    Appeared the vessel's master, Ivar Eilertsen, who produced a written report, prepared by him, dated Glasgow the 27th March 1941, with reference to the occurence ...

    The captain referred to the report as his evidence and added that he himself was on the bridge when the casualty occurred. The 2nd officer was on watch on the bridge, A.B. Seaman Sørensen was at the wheel and carpenter Tvedt was look-out man on the bridge. The vessel was equipped with a Lewis gun which was placed on the roof of the cabin aft. A kite had been delivered on board at Hull, but the time had been insufficient to get it put up. The captain had made urgent request for the kite to be fitted on board, but after all it did not come to anything. The captain wishes it to be emphasized that the course N.62 W., as stated in the report, is the true course. The captain further asks to be noted that when Norway entered the war the vessel was insured for Kr. 1.200.000 with the Aeolus of Bergen.

    The 1st witness (Anders Lynge, 2nd officer) stated that he had been on watch on the bridge since 8 o'clock. At 9 o'clock a British aeroplane circled over the ship. They could plainly see the national marking. Half an hour later a German aeroplane came out of a formation of cloud and at once commenced firing with wachine guns and thereafter dropping bombs. The witness is acquainted with the contents of the captain's report and he otherwise made statement in conformity with same.

    The 2nd witness (Sigvald Sørensen, A. B. Seaman) stated that he was on watch on the bridge as helmsman when the casualty occurred. He had been on the bridge since 8 o'clock. The witness otherwise made statement entirely in conformity with that of the previous witness and in accordance with what the captain had entered in his report.

    The 3rd witness (Lorentz Tvedt, carpenter) stated he had been on watch on the bridge as look-out man from 8 o'clock. He made statement in conformity with that of the previous witness with regard to the appearance, first of the British aeroplane and thereafter of the German. As soon as the latter commenced to drop bombs the witness ran down in order to get to the Lewis gun aft. However, he got no further than to the boat deck where he was knocked over by the explosion.
