"In April 1940 at the time the Germans attacked Norway, NILSEN was as usual at Lofoten for the annual cod fisheries and shortly after he and other fishermen returned to their homes in convoy. During the occupation NILSEN continued his vocation as fisherman and he took part in the Lofoten fisheries in 1941-42-43-44. Accoring to NILSEN the nearest Germans were stationed at Sandesjøen and before going to Lofoten it was necessary to have his ship's papers stamped by the German port authorities there".
