"On the outbreak of war he immediately volunteered for service to the [... .] The Lensmann suggested that he should take a job on board the Sheriff's launch in order to release another man who had military training and was liable for service. [...] KRISTOFFERSEN agreed to do this and on the 12.4.40 he began his new duties. [...] 

He served on the Sheriff's boat, the "ROLF" until the end of October 1940 when he had to give up his job owing to the restricted use of his official boat by the Sheriff. [...]

KRISTOFFERSEN then decided to go back to Kirkenes to take employment with his uncle as he did not consier that it would be worthwile to commence fishing that autumn. He took employment with his uncle's company and remained there until February 1941 when he returned home."

Flyktet senere til Sverige: "In Stockholm [1943] he was sent to the British Legation where he had a conversation with a man whose name he does not know. He understood from this that he was to be employed on the Shetland boats and welcomed the opportunity."
