Dro til sjøs i 1898 med bark "Salem" av Tvedestrand.
Styrm. eks. 1900 i Haugesund og skibsf. eks. i 1905 i Trondheim.
Styrmann på flere N.F.D.S. skip. Ble i 1916 fører av ds "Kong Helge" av Trondhem tilh. N.F.D.S.
Har senere ført dampskipene "Kong Erik", "Atle Jarl", Ragnvald Jarl" og fører nå "Roald Jarl".
Som fører av ds "Kong Magnus" ble skipet skutt i senk av tyskerne under konvoi i Nordsjøen
12. desember 1917. Passasjer og besetning ble etter strabaser i 30 timer om bord
i engelsk destroyer landsatt i Flekkefjord.
