Gift i Oslo med Anne Furseth, f. 1915 i Kristiansund. 1 barn. Styrmannsskole, radiotelegrafist og skipsførereksamen. Var 2. styrmann og telegrafist på m/s Benjamin Franklin som gikk i konvoi fra Bermuda 1. februar 1941, og omkom da skipet ble senket av en tysk u-båt 19. februar. Omtalt i Kjell Lynau: De gav sitt liv.
I sjøforklaring til "Benjamin Franklin" er navnet "Trygve Bang Nilsen".
