Var fyrbøter om bord på Brask da den på reise i konvoi fra Oban bestemt for Durban. Etter at konvoien var blitt oppløst seilte Brask videre sammen med et gresk fartøy. 15. januar 1941 i pos.N 52.45', W 23.59 ble først det greske skipet senket av italiensk ubåt Torelli. Deretter gikk ubåten til angrep på D/S BRASK, som ble senket med torpedo. 7 nordmenn, 1 franskmann, 1 brite og 2 finner ble drept. 20 overlevende reddet seg i båtene.
Emil Berg var også om bord på M/T Kongsgaard da denne ble torpedert i juni 1941, skipet ble ført heldig inn til Belfast etter torpederingen, der hun ble reparert for et stort hull i siden.
