Var fisker til han reiste til sjøs i 1938 mde M/T BUESTEN. Omkom den 9. april 1941 da skipet ble bombet i senk utenfor Barry Head, på reise fra Dartmouth til Southampton. Broren Ole Tornes omkom med M/S SØRLAND den 9. april 1940 i Oslofjorden.
