Nortrashipflåtens skyttere 1941-1946:
Han var 2. styrmann på DS HELLEN da skipet ble senket underveis fra Lisboa til Melilla. Hele besetningen ble reddet.
Senere meldte han seg til marinen og utdannet til inspeksjons- og vepningsoffiser ved Sjøforsvarets Skytteravdeling for Handelsflåten.
Etter endt utdannelse gjorde han tjeneste på MS THALATTA sammenhengende i tre år.
