Skoleskipskurs, fartstid 55 måneder.
Var den 9. april 1940 ombord på: M/S GRENANGER på vei fra USA til Bueno Aires. Videre var han ombord på M/S HØEGH MERCHANT, da skipet ble torpedert på vei fra Manila til San Francisco. Hele besetningen på 35 og fem passasjerer kom seg i livbåtene. Etter dette var han ombord på M/S PANAMA EXPRESS. Han mønstret av i San Pedro, hvor han meldte seg til marinen. Ble antatt 21. desember 1942, og utdannet til skytter i Lunenburg, Canada.
Han ble tildelt Krigsmedaljen.
