Warsailors
På reise fra Port of Spain, Trinidad, til Gibraltar ble M/T Ida Knudsen torpedert av den italienske ubåten Luigi Torelli. Claassens kom seg i en livbåt med fire andre, men den kantret. Han og Oddmund Meland klarte å holde seg fast og snu livbåten. De kom seg til Tenerife 9. august 1941 og reiste videre til Liverpool.
