Reiste til sjøs da han var 16 år, og kom i alliert tjeneste da krigen brøt ut i Norge. Omkom 22. januar 1942 da M/T INNERØY ble torpedert i Atlanterhavet, på vei fra Aruba via Bermuda til Halifax.
