Gift i Liverpool med Muriel Doris Baker, f. 1898 i Cardiff. Middelskole, styrmanns- og skipperskole. Var 2. styrmann på M/M Jamaica som ble torpedert av tysk u-båt 7. mars 1943 på vei til Amerika. Torpederingen ble omtalt i den engelske presse, fordi den tyske u-båten kjørte den siste livbåten i senk, og størsteparten av mannskapet omkom.
