Ble amerikansk statsborger 1. september 1942 og seilte resten av krigen på amerikanske skip.
Karsten Idzar er nevnt i Lise Lidbæk's bok "Tusen norske skip" som skildrer de dramatiske døgn i livbåt etter "Koll"'s forlis i april 1942. Skildringen er basert på 2. styrmann Idzar's egen loggbok.
