Handelsflåtens skyttere 1941-1946:
Inspeksjons- og Vepningsoffiserer i havnebyene og på norske handelsskip under den annen verdenskrig 1940-1945. L. nr. 33. Antatt som offisersaspirant i New York. Underveis til England for videre utdannelse ble han torpedert med hvalkokeriet KOSMOS II. Skipet ble rammet med 3 torpedoer og gikk ned med 24 mann. Arnesen var blandt de reddede og kom til Dumbarton, Skottland, hvor han ble utdannet til inspeksjons- og vepningsoffiser ved Sjøforsvarets Skytteravdeling for Handelsflåten.
Etter endt utdannelse gjorde han tjeneste på:
