Vi menn:
«Som om det ikke var nok med fire torpederinger: Kieding overlevde ved ren og skjær flaks ved Milford Heaven. Han lå ved kai med det greske skipet [D/S PELEUS] og ventet på konvoi. Skipet hadde en skade på propellen etter en kollisjon med en mine som ikke detonerte.
På grunn av eksplosjoner på land måtte skip til kai ut på sjøen. Men man fikk ikke i gang maskinene, så skipet ble tauet ut gjennom ubåtnettet for reparasjon.
- En annen båt fikk etter hvert vår plass ved kaia. Den gikk plutselig i lufta. Det viste seg at det var en vibrasjonsmine under båten som reagerte på propellen, sier Kieding. Altså; dobbelt flaks. Han kunne blitt minesprengt to ganger!».
