3.maskinist ombord på D/T MADRONO som ble oppbrakt av tysk raider THOR 4.juli 1942 i Det indiske hav. Tyskerne satte prisemannskap ombord, og tok skipet til Yokohama i Japan. Der ble han satt ombord i en tysk blokadebryter, RHAKIOTIS, 6753 br.tonn, bygget 1928, som skulle til Europa. RHAKIOTIS ble senket av egen besetning 1.1.1943 i Biscaya for ikke å bli tatt av britiske krigsskip. Etter 2 døgn tatt opp av spansk tråler og landsatt i La Corunna. Sendt videre til Gibraltar og derfra med et fransk skip ankom Glasgow 26.1.43
