Alfred Andersen reiste ut på hvalfangst høsten 1939 med hvalkokeriet Ole Wegger som ble kapret på fangstfeltet av den tyske raideren Penguin 14.1.1941. Mannskapet inkludert Alfred Andersen ble brakt som fanger til Frankrike og senere repatriert til Norge. Alfred Andersen kom til Norge mai 1941.
