2. august 1940 ble hun kapret av tysk raider Atlantis i posisjon 3030S og 6700Ø og skutt i senk. Besetningen ble overført til Atlantis og derfra senere til norske TIRRANNA, som etter kapring av samme Atlantis 10. juli 1940 var på vei til tysk okkupert område i Frankrike. Turen gikk gjennom Det indiske hav, rundt Afrika og inn i Biskayabukta. Her ble hun torpedert av engelsk ubåt Tuna utenfor Girondemunningen 22. september 1940. Tre fra Talleyrand omkom. Jens Bang ble reddet av tyskerne og landsatt i Frankrike, sendt hjem og avmønstret i Norge.
