Var 2. styrmann på D/S TORVANGER da skipet ble senket av tysk undervannsbåt ved Asorene i pos 39.40N 41.30V, den 23 juni 1942 kl. 11:47. Fire mann av besetningen omkom, mens 33 ble reddet.
Han meldte han seg til marinen og utdannet til inspeksjons- og vepningsoffiser ved Sjøforsvarets Skytteravdeling for Handelsflåten.
