Utdannet som rørlegger og finmekaniker, eksamen ved Bergens maskinistskole. Ved krigens utbrudd var han maskinist på hvalbåt og var på fangst i Sørisen. Ble senere maskinist på d/s Thyrå som gikk i fart mellom England og Canada, og omkom da skipet sank i Nord-Atlanteren 27. mai 1941 på vei til Canada, etter kollisjon med et skip i konvoien.
