Påmønstret M/S "Gundersen" som 3. Maskinist da skipet ble torpedert den 2. juli 1942
Senere 3. Maskinist om bord i M/S "Fernhill" da dette skipet ble torpedert den 7. august 1943. Han ble tatt til fange om bord i undervannsbåten U-757 som senket skipet, og siden ble han landsatt i St. Nazaire. Deretter sendt til fangeleir i Tyskland. (Marlag und Milag Nord, Westerminde, Bremen). Befridd av engelske styrker den 28. april 1945 og kom med fly til London den 11. mai 1945
Til Norge den 31. august 1945 med "ANDES"
