Reiste til sjøs 18 år gammel, ble i 24 års alderen kokk og arbeidet hele tiden under okkupasjonen som kokk ombord i båter i alliert tjeneste. Han omkom da d/s Galatea ble torpedert 21. januar 1945 på vei fra Amerika til en havn i Bristolkanalen.
