I følge fartsoppgave fra rederiet A/S Thor Dahl, ble Harald Amundsen overført fra hvalbåt D/S KLO til flytende hvalkokeri D/S OLE WEGGER den 23.3.1940 i Cape Town, og var med dette skip til han mønstret på hvalbåt D/S POL IX i Halifax den 1.10.1940.
Tatt til fange 14.1.1941 da hvafanger D/S POL IX ble oppbrakt av den tyske hjelpekrysser PINGUIN. Mannskapet landsatt i Frankrike og kom hjem til Sandefjord 5.5.1941.
