"Reiste ut som dekksgutt på D/S "HILD" i februar 1932. Seilte på flere Brøvig skip, men da krigen brøt ut var
han matros på D/S "SPIND". I september 1940 mønstrer han matros ombord i M/S "FERNCLIFF" og senere følger D/T "MARIT II", D/S "DOURO", D/S SADO", D/S "FRODE", D/S "SIGRID", D/S "GERMA", D/S "BESTUM", M/S
"SPINNANGER" og D/S "TROUBADOUR". Sistnevnte et Tønsberg skip går han ombord i februar 1945 og står
ombord til slutten av november 1945. Etter krigen gjør han siste tur som båtsmann på M/T "GUNNAR BRØVIG"
i 1949. Hjalmar, Thoralf og Selmer var tre brødre fra Spind som alle var krigsseilere".
