Privat arkiv:
Gikk på rekruttskole i Horten, og kom over til Storbritannia i april 1940 med "Thorodd". Under krigsårene var Wilhelm Freberg i regelmessig Atlanterhavskonvoitjeneste med HNoMS Acanthus i hovedsak mellom Liverpool og St. Johns (New Foundland). Freberg var også med på eskorte til Murmansk, bl.a. konvoi JW55a. Han deltok også under invasjonen i Normandie ombord i samme fartøy.
