Han var på Frelsesarmèens barneherberge i Skien fra 1.august 1925 til han reiste til sjøs 30. september 1939.
Var med M/S BORGESTAD og omkom da skipet 12. februar 1941 i konvoi på vei mellom Freetown og England tok opp kampen med en tysk panserkrysser ADMIRAL HIPPER og ble senket. Alle borte.
