Var den 9. april 1940 ombord i M/S BELNOR som på denne tiden lå i Dakar. Etterpå var han ombord i panamaskipet M/T NORNESS som ble torpedert den 16.januar 1942. To av besetningen omkom. Han meldte seg nu til marinen .
Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway, Lunenburg, Canada.
Bosatte seg i USA etter krigen.

Ifølge privat arkiv og sjøforklaringer så var han født 17. september 1916. Dette er rettet i profilen. I bokverket nevnt ovenfor står han med fødselsår 1910, og det er feil.
