Mønstret på en engelsk båt i Shanghai i begynnelsen av krigen, seilte på engelske båter i 1 1/2 år og ble blant annet bombet før han mønstret på M/S Ida Bakke i juni 1942.
Bosatte seg i USA etter krigen og ble amerikansk statsborger i 1950.
