Skipet ble torpedert og senket ved Christmas Island.  Hele besetningen ble reddet iland på øya.
De ble der i drøye 2 uker. Derfra kom de med et marinefartøy til Batavia, der de ble i 10 dager, Videre dro de med australsk skip "Marella" til Sydney, der det ble holdt sjøforklaring.
