Gift 1936 i Stokke med Svanhild Olsen, f. 1901 s. st. 2 barn. Dro til sjøs 1939 med «Svend Foynn», overvintret på Leith Harbour, Sør-Georgia, og kom 1941 til Skottland hvor han tok hyre på «Empress», men avmønstret i 1942 på grunn av sykdom. Døde 16. mai 1942 på Western Infirmery av bukhinnebetennelse. Gravlagt på Stokke kirkegård
