Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway, Lunenburg, Canada i tiden 29.8.1942 til 8.10.1942.
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
M/S TOULOUSE fra 9.10.1942 til 17.9.1944.overført
SSH Dumbarton fra 18.9.1944. til 8.2.1945.overført
D/S NORELG fra 9.2.1945 til 24.7.1945.overført
SSH Dumbarton fra 25.7.1945 til 2.8.1945.overført
D/S BISCAYA fra 3.8.1945 til 11.9.1945.
M/S KRONPRINSEN fra 12.9.1945 til 3.10.1945.
Mønstret av i New York og reiste hjem til Norge med troppetransportskipet D/S STAVANGERFJORD og dimittert i Oslo 27.november 1945.
For sin innsats for Norge under den annen verdenskrig ble han ble tildelt Krigsmedaljen den 17.januar 1947.
