Flack: "I 1941 var jeg fører av d.s. "Astra" i konvoi Nordatlanteren. Det var storm og styremaskinen brakk ned, og før nødstyring kunne brukes hadde vi mistet konvoien. Styrte i 4 dager med nødror inn til England, og kom vel i havn uten andre uhell. For dette ble jeg tildelt en dobbelt prismekikkert, verdi ca. 80 pund, av Nortraship. Der var innskripsjon for vel utført arbeid".
