Etter avmønstring av D/S Kirsten i august 1941 oppholdt han seg i New York. Kom til England med "Queen Elisabeth" i 1943 og mønstret på D/S Lysaker 30.11.43 i London.
Hans brødre Hjalmar og Toralv var også krigsseilere.
