Til sjøs i 1915 med 4.mastet bark DOWAN HILL av Lyngør, tilhørende Skipsreder Simon W. MARCUSSEN, Arendal. 5/1916 ble skipet solgt til S. O. Stray & Co. i Kristiansand. Nytt navn SNIG. 5.5.1917: Senket av tysk ubåt U-49 i posisjon 50 51 Nord 12 40 West, på reise fra Belfast til St.Thomas i ballast. Besetningen måtte gå i 2 livbåter, den ene nådde land etter 7 døgn, den andre brukte 9 døgn til Mullogh i Donegal Bay, Irland.
Fartstid med seilskip uten mønstring 27 måneder.
Kystfart med D.S. FILEFJELD i 2.27/30 måneder.
Styrmanns Eksamen 1918 i Bergen, skipsfører Eksamen 1930 i Arendal.
Styrmanns sertifikat for seilskip 27.05.1919. Styrmanns sertifikat for dampskip 27.12.1919.
Skipsfører sertifikat for dampskip 23.06.1930.
