Gift 1921 i Stavanger med Sigrid Birkeland, f. 1894 i Flekkefjord. 3 barn. Reiste til sjøs i 15-års alderen, og unntatt et par små avbrytelser var han til sjøs til sin død. Var den siste tid motormann på m/s Tyr som gikk i alliert fart. Omkom ved et ulykkestilfelle i Lourenco Marques, Mozambique, 6. desember 1940 og ble gravlagt der.
