Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Dumbarton, Scotland.
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
M/T BRAJARA fra 14.1.1943 til 29.5.1943.
M/T VIVI fra 1.6.1943 til skipet kom i brann på New York havn den 5.februar 1945. ( 10 mann omkom i brannen)
Han var senere ombord i:
M/S TEMMARE fra 6.7.1945 til 9.8.1945.
