Var den 9.april 1940 ombord på M/T HØEGH SCOUT, og noe senere ombord på M/T SPINANGER som han mønstret av i Liverpool og meldte seg til marinen.
Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Dumbarton, Scotland.
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
M/S ABRAHAM LINCOLN fra 20.1.1943 til 14.7.1944.
M/S RENA fra 14.9.1944 til 7.12.1944.
M/T STRINDA fra 13.12.1944 til 23.7.1945.
M/T EVITA fra 9.8.1945 til 10.4.1946.
Mønstret av i Rotterdam og reiste hjem til Norge med M/S MAUD.
Dimittert på Garnes ved Bergen den 16.april 1946.
