Var den 9. april 1940 ombord i D/S GUNVOR og fortsatte ombord til skipet ble minesprengt kl.2045 den 14.juni 1942. ( 2 mann omkom og 20 reddet.)
Han meldte seg til marine.
Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway, Lunenburg, Canada.
Forfremmet til ULDM og gjorde tjeneste på M/S TORRENS fra 24.8.1942 til 5.11.1942.
Ble kjent udyktig til sjøtjeneste og gjorde siden tjeneste ved bekledningsdepotet på Travers Island.
For sin innsats for Norge under den annen verdenskrig ble han ble tildelt Krigsmedaljen, Deltakermedaljen og Haakon den VII`s 70 års medalje.
