M/T JOHN KNUDSEN ankom Oran 27.6.1940 og ble nektet utklarering av franske myndigheter. Den 27.6.1941 ble skipet rekvirert av Vichy-regjeringen, og manskapet ble avmønstret og internert i land. Mannskapet flyktet fra Oran den 27.7.1941, og ankom til Giberaltar. Påmønstret bristiske D/S ISAC den 5.8.1941, og ankom til England 17.9.1941.
Maskinistskolen i England i tiden 15.10.1943 til 4.4.1944.
