Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway, Lunenburg, Canada .
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
M/T ANDERS JAHRE fra 18.5.1942 til 4.1.1943.
M/T ALCIDES fra 10.6.1943 til skipet ble torpedert av japansk undervannsbåt 23.juli 1943. Kapteinen, 2.styrmannen og telegrafisten ble tatt til fange, mens øvrige besetning på 49 mann omkom.
