Var hjemme i Norge den 9. april 1940, men rømte til England i november 1941.
Ankom London 03.12.1941.
Seilte senere i handelsflåten, og var ombord på DS SKOTTLAND da skipet ble torpedert den 17. mai 1942 underveis fra USA til England. En mann omkom. Senere var han ombord på DS SØNNAVIND fra 03.07.1942 til 08.02.1943. Antatt i Den norske marine den 23.02.1943.
Han ble utdannet til skytter i Lunenburg, Canada.
Gjorde deretter tjeneste ombord på:
MS ROALD AMUNDSEN fra 22.04.1943 til 12.06.1944.
MS ROSEVILLE fra 30.06.1944 til 30.06.1944
MS NARVIK fra 11.07.1944 til 30.07.1945.
MS HEIMVARD fra 18.10.1945 til 04.11.1945.
