Yrke: Sjømann.
Fartstid ca. 87 måneder.
Mønstet av D/S PRIMO og meldte seg til marinen.
Antatt i marinen 11.2.1942 og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway, Lunenburg, Canada.
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
D/T FRONTENAC fra 28.3.1942 til 28.4.1943. Overført
D/S GARNES fra 28.3.1943 til 28.8.1944.
M/T THORSHAV fra 15.9.1944 til 28.5.1945. (Iflg. Nortraships papirer heter skipet "TORSHOV". Det er valgt å mønstre Opheim på forrigenevnte skip fremfor skip nevnt i Nortrashipflåtens skyttere.)
Reiste fra New York den 23.8.1945 med D/S ALASKA og kom til Oslo 21.9.1945.
For sin innsats for Norge under den annen verdenskrig ble han ble tildelt Krigsmedaljen, Deltakermedaljen og Haakon den VII`s 70 års medalje.
