Var om bord på DS BIARRITZ da denne ble torpedert (U 14) i rute fra Antwerpen til Oslo den 25. januar 1940. 25 av besetningen og 11 passasjerer omkom. De overlevende ble tatt opp av DS BORGHOLM.
Han ble utdannet til skytter på SSH Travers Island i tiden 13.11.1943 til 17.01.1944. Gjorde deretter tjeneste om bord på:
MT PAN SCANDIA fra 18.01.1944 til 07.06.1944.
MS BRITANNIA fra 17.06.1944 til 13.12.1944.
MS BALLA fra 19.01.1945 til 27.03.1945.
TT FINNMARK fra 12.06.1945 til 22.10.1945.
Han ble tildelt Deltagermedaljen.
