Senere var han ombord i M/T SVEVE av Bergen. Rederiet Wilh. Jebsen fra 14.6.1942 til dette skip ble torpedert kl. 1255 torsdag 10.september 1942, underveis fra Clyde til Curacao. Hele besetningen ble reddet av eskortefartøyene.
Etter dette meldte han seg til marinen 26.10.1942.
Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway. Lunenburg, Canada i tiden 24.10.1942 til 6.12.1942.
Gjorde senere tjeneste på norske handelsskip:
M/S TAMERLANE av Tønsberg. Rederiet Wilh. Wilhelmsen fra 4.12.1942 til 18.10.1945. Skipet gjorde forøvrig en heltemodig innsats under krigen.
Han ble dimittert i New York den 18.10.1945, og fortsatte på samme skip som matros han mønstrert av M/S TAMERLANE i New York 15.7.1946 som sivil.
