Reiste til sjøs 1925 med dampskipet "Key West"
av Haugesund tilhørende Knut Knutsen OAS. Styrmannseksamen
1930 i Stavanger og skipsførereksamen 1933 i Farsund.
Styrmann med dampskipene "Karmøy",
"Haugarland", M/S Elisabeth Bakke,"Sofie Bakke",
D/S Lysland ,M/S Belgrano og M/T Anna Knudsen.
Ble i 1941 fører av "Novasli" av Farsund, tilhørende Nortraship.
Har senere ført dampskipene "Lynghaug" av Bergen,
tilhørene Nortraship og "Lisbeth" av Haugesund, tilhørende
Knut Knutsen OAS. Forliste med M/S Sofie Bakke
den 4. aug. 1940 utenfor Peterhead. Var i konvoi,
lastet med råmatriell for ammunisjonsfabrikkene
i London. Ble pårendt av det svenske M/S Lima.
"Sofie Bakke" sank hurtig. Alle mann ble reddet.
Seilte under hele siste verdenskrig, derav 2,5 år
for Maritime Commission, USA. Deltok i invasjonen
på Sicilia. Unntatt noen bombeskader gikk alt
forholdsvis bra.
Kjøpte senere sin egen skute "SPERA".
