Var ombord i Damptanker SARITA da dette skipet som var i ballast på reise fra St. Vincent til Aruba den 14.juli 1940 ble torpedert av tysk ubåt UA klasse 09.45 lokal tid i posisjon 15 22 Nord 26 28 Vest. Skipet ble truffet av en torpedo i nr. 7 stortank babord side og en voldsom eksplosjon inntraff. Maskinen ble straks stoppet og signalet for alle mann til livbåtene ble gitt, alle livbåter var ut svinget og klar til låring. Under eksplosjonen ble motorlivbåten som hang utsvingt midtskips om babord kastet inn på båtdekket med brukket kjøl og samme var det med forreste davit og således helt ubrukelig. Alle mann måtte derfor gå i babord livbåt akter og man kom seg vel klar av skipssiden. Undervannsbåten var da kommet i overvannstilling og begynte å beskyte skipet som enda holdt seg flytende, ca. 30 skudd ble avfyrt før skipet la seg helt over til babord og sank med akterenden først.
Torsdag 18.juli ble de reddet og tatt ombord i D/S DUNSTAN av Liverpool og fikk den beste forpleining samtidig som klær ble utdelt. Reisen fortsatte nu med D/S DUNSTAN som var bestemt til Pernambuco og hele besetningen fra SARITA ble landsatt der. De ble avmønstret i New York 25.09.1940.
