Han forteller at han etter hvalfangstsesongen 1939-40 kom til England og var i den norske hæren i tre og en halv måned. Han ble overflyttet til den britiske marinen og var der fra 22/8-1940 til 25/3-1942. Gikk deretter til den norske handelsflåten.
