D/S KOSMOS gikk videre til Cape Town. Etter en måneds tid fikk de ordre om å seile til Curacao via Walvis Bay.
26.9.1940 - Befant hun seg ca. 2000 nautiske mil øst for Trinidad, hvor hun ble kapret og senket av tysk raider "THOR" i pos. 00.26S og 32.01W.
Mannskapet ble tatt til fange, repatriert og sendt hjem til Norge med ankomst Oslo den 3. mai 1941.
