På reise fra Walvis Bay til Curacao ble mannskapet 26. september 1940 oppbragt av en tysk raider, Thor, hvoretter "Kosmos" ble senket. Mannskapet ankom til Bordeaux den 20. desember 1940 og ble 10. januar 1941 sendt til fangeleir. De ble sendt til fangeleir i Tyskland 10. april 1941. Hjemsendt til Norge etter ca. 3 ukers opphold, med ankomst Oslo den 3. mai 1941.
