Dokumentasjon i Ex gratia-arkivet, eksempelvis kort fra Londonregisteret, nevner at fødested til Berg var Hallingdal. Dette er imidlertid endret til Ålesund i Krigsseilerregisteret fordi kirkebok bekrefter dette og at han ble døpt i Ålesund kirke.
